How Google AdMob & AdSense Pay Publishers: Net-21 Cycles, PIN Logistics, and Payment Holds

Both Google AdMob (mobile applications) and Google AdSense (websites) clear publisher disbursements through the unified Google Payments ledger on a strict Monthly Net-21 cycle. However, new publishers frequently experience unexpected delays between seeing "Estimated Earnings" in their dashboard and receiving cleared funds in their bank account.

This operational reference details the exact day-by-day monthly payout ledger, why finalized earnings differ from estimated earnings, and the four mandatory verification gates required before your first wire or ACH transfer is released.

1. The Chronological Monthly Payment Timeline (Net-21)

Suppose your application or website generates ad revenue throughout the month of March. Here is the exact sequence of accounting events that governs your payout in April:

Calendar Window Accounting State Operational Mechanics
Day 1 – Day 31 (Month M) Estimated Earnings Accrual Real-time auction revenue is logged in your Reports tab. These figures are provisional and have not undergone deep invalid traffic reconciliation.
Day 2 – Day 3 (Month M+1) Balance Finalization & IVT Clawback Google audits Month M logs, deducts Invalid Traffic (IVT) and advertiser chargebacks, and posts the Finalized Balance to your Payments tab.
Day 20 (Month M+1) Payment Profile Cut-Off Deadline to make changes to your bank account, tax forms, or remove payment holds for the current cycle.
Day 21 – Day 26 (Month M+1) Automated Disbursement Issuance If your finalized balance exceeds $100.00 (or local currency equivalent) and all holds are cleared, Google initiates the ACH/SEPA/SWIFT transfer.

Note on Weekends & Bank Holidays: If the 21st of the month falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or US federal banking holiday, the "Automatic payment pending" line item is generated on the next business day (the 22nd or 23rd).

2. Estimated vs. Finalized Earnings (The 2nd of the Month Deduction)

Every month between the 2nd and the 3rd, publishers see a line item in their transaction history labeled "Invalid Traffic - AdMob Apps" or "Invalid Traffic - AdSense for Content."

  • Healthy Deduction Range: A deduction of 0.5% to 2.5% of gross monthly earnings is completely normal. It reflects automated filtering of accidental double-clicks, bot crawlers, and non-billable impression retries.
  • Warning Threshold (> 5%): If your monthly invalid traffic clawback exceeds 5% of your estimated earnings, your ad placements likely suffer from accidental click proximity (e.g., a banner placed too close to a game control button) or low-quality user acquisition sources.

3. The Four Mandatory Verification Gates ($10 and $100 Thresholds)

Google enforces two separate monetary thresholds: the $10.00 Verification Threshold and the $100.00 Payment Threshold. Once your account reaches its first $10.00 in cumulative earnings, you must complete four compliance steps:

  1. Tax Information Submission: Under Payments → Settings → Manage Tax Info, US entities submit an electronic IRS Form W-9, while non-US developers submit Form W-8BEN (individuals) or W-8BEN-E (corporations). You must also submit Singapore tax residency info if your account contracts with Google Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd.
  2. Government Identity Verification (KYC): Google requires a high-resolution scan of a government-issued passport, national ID card, or driver's license (plus certificate of incorporation for organizational accounts). All four corners of the document must be visible without glare, and the name must match your Payments Profile character-for-character.
  3. Physical Address Verification (The 6-Digit Postal PIN): Google automatically mails a physical paper postcard containing a 6-digit PIN to your payment address. Delivery takes 2 to 4 weeks. You have 4 months from the generation date to enter the PIN, or ad serving is paused. If the first mailer does not arrive after 21 days, request a replacement PIN immediately from the Verification Check screen (you can request up to 3 replacements; the PIN number remains identical on all copies).
  4. Bank Account Test Deposit (EFT / ACH): In countries supporting Electronic Funds Transfer (US, UK, EU SEPA, Canada), Google sends a micro-deposit between $0.01 and $1.00 within 2–5 business days. You must enter the exact deposit amount in your dashboard to verify the account.

4.Comparing Payment Methods: EFT/SEPA vs. SWIFT Wire Transfer

EFT / ACH / SEPA (Local Rails)

Available in North America, the UK, Eurozone, and select APAC markets. Google routes the payment via local clearing houses with $0.00 transfer fees. Funds arrive in 1 to 3 business days after the 21st.

International SWIFT Wire Transfer

Used in emerging markets when receiving USD. While Google does not charge an outgoing wire fee, intermediary correspondent banks deduct $15.00 to $35.00 per transfer, plus a 1.5%–3.5% FX spread if converted to local currency by your receiving bank.

Tip for International Developers: If you lose $25+ every month to SWIFT intermediary fees on small $100–$300 payouts, raise your self-imposed payment schedule threshold inside AdMob Settings from $100 to $500 or $1,000 so you only pay wire fees once per quarter.
